The gap

A bank tells you your score. It rarely tells you how to raise it.

Two things decide the mark: how fast you work, and whether you know the technique behind each answer. Grinding through more questions builds neither on its own.

Pace

The clock is the exam

Most lost marks are a timing problem, not a difficulty one. Every drill runs on the real per-section clock, so the pace is familiar long before you sit down on the day.

Technique

Why beats what

Every answer comes with the working and the exact trap that catches people out. Understand it once and the next question of its kind stops being hard.

Focus

Your mistakes, chased

The questions that beat you come back on a spaced schedule until they don't. Clearing that list moves your score more than any fresh set ever will.

Try it, free

One real question. See how it marks.

An original Verbal Reasoning item, marked the way everything in Tempo is: the reasoning and the exact trap, not just a tick or a cross. No sign-up to have a go.

Verbal Reasoning1 / 2

When the Camborne pumping engine was restored in 1979, the volunteers expected the boiler to be the costliest part of the job. In the event the boiler needed only minor repairs, and it was the cracked flywheel, recast off-site to an old pattern, that swallowed most of the budget. The engine runs on open days now, though always at a reduced steam pressure.

The volunteers expected the flywheel to be the most expensive part of the restoration.

Pick True, False or Can't tell.

This is the whole idea, in one screen.

  • Marked the moment you answer. No waiting, no logging in, no bank of unexplained scores.
  • ?The why, every time. The reason it was wrong and the trap that caught you, so the next one of its kind is easier.
  • Wrong ones come back. Inside the app, anything you miss returns on a spaced schedule until it stops beating you.

The real interface

Practise on the screen you will actually sit.

We rebuilt the exam environment piece by piece: the on-screen calculator, the keyboard shortcuts, the Navigator, flagging and review. By the time you sit the real one, none of it is new.

  • The on-screen calculator, replicated. Keyboard only, trailing-dot display and memory keys, exactly as Pearson VUE runs it.
  • A working Navigator. Jump to any question, see at a glance what you answered and what you skipped, flag and come back.
  • One section clock. No pausing, no feedback until the end, then a full review of every question.
  • Two speeds. Easy walks you through the method until it sticks. Hard strips it back to exam pace and exam-style working.
What you drill

Every subtest, in its real format.

Formats and interfaces are replicated to the exam. Every question, passage and scenario is original, written for Tempo and never copied from any bank or provider.

Verbal Reasoning

True, false and can't-tell sets, plus evidence hunting. We drill the can't-tell calls hardest, because that is where most people leak marks: telling apart what the text states, what it contradicts and what it never actually says.

Quantitative Reasoning

Data sets, estimation and the on-screen calculator. It trains you to reach for a rough estimate first and the keypad only when you truly need it, which is where the clock quietly runs away.

The whole application

More than a trainer.

The exam is only one hurdle between you and an offer. Tempo carries the rest of the application with it.

University selector

Enter your GCSEs, UCAT and predictions and see where you sit against every school: strong, in range or aspirational, with contextual weighting.

Six-week plan

A day-by-day build from the arithmetic floor to full exam conditions, so you always know what to practise next.

Interview preparation

Themes, structure and rehearsal for the questions that repeat, written around what each school reports weighting.

Mistake bank

The exact questions that beat you, resurfaced on a spaced schedule until they are yours.

School data

Medicine and dentistry entry detail, with the date each dataset was last checked shown next to it.

Australia & NZ

A dedicated section for applicants sitting the UCAT for Australian and New Zealand schools.

Interview, out loud

Rehearse the interview by talking to it.

Pick the school you are applying to and the questions shift to match what it tends to ask. Answer out loud into your mic. Tempo writes down what you said and marks the structure and the delivery, so you rehearse speaking under pressure rather than reading model answers in your head.

Strong motivation and a real example. Tighten the opening, and name what you learned from the experience, not just that you did it.
  • 🎓Tailored per university. Choose your school from the selector and the question set retunes to the themes it reports weighting.
  • 🎙Speak your answer. Talk into the mic the way you will in the room; Tempo captures it live and works from what you actually said.
  • Marked and saved. Structure, delivery and reflection scored out of ten, with the best and worst lines flagged, saved to your progress.

★★★★★

I started UCAT prep earlier than most people in Year 12 and I'm so glad I found Tempo. My mock scores went up loads over a few months and I finally understood how to actually approach each section instead of just guessing. The timing practice was honestly a game changer.

Couldn't recommend Tempo enough. I was stuck around the same score for weeks and nothing seemed to work. After a while everything just started clicking and my practice scores kept improving. The advice was really easy to understand and actually worked in the exam.

I took a gap year to reapply for medicine because my UCAT held me back the first time. Tempo made such a difference. It helped me fix mistakes I didn't even realise I was making, and my score improved by over 200 points compared to last year. I felt way more confident going in.

After a disappointing UCAT last year, I decided to get proper help instead of doing everything myself. Tempo was honestly worth it. Using it was really relaxed but super useful, and I learned loads of strategies that actually improved my score.

Honestly couldn't have asked for better. Tempo explained everything in a way that actually made sense and gave loads of useful tips I hadn't seen anywhere else. My mock scores kept going up and I felt so much more confident by the time I sat the exam. 100% worth it.

Straight answers

The questions worth asking.

Is Tempo affiliated with the UCAT?

No. It is an independent study tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the UCAT Consortium, Pearson VUE or UCAS. UCAT is a trademark of its owner, used here only to describe what this app prepares you for. All content is original.

Does it replace my question bank?

No, and it is not sold as one. Banks give you volume. Tempo builds the speed, technique and judgement underneath a score, and tells you why each answer was wrong. It runs alongside whichever bank you already use.

Do you promise a score?

No. Anyone promising a UCAT score is guessing. Tempo trains the skills honestly and shows you your progress; the result on the day is yours.

What happens to my data?

Marking runs on your device, so your practice stays with you. You can export everything or delete it at any time.

Is there an app to download?

No. Tempo runs in your browser on any device, so there is nothing to install and nothing to update. Open the page, sign in and start.

I am applying in Australia or New Zealand.

There is a section for you. Tempo covers the UCAT as sat for UK, Australian and New Zealand schools.
